Staying Soft In A Hard World: Day One

For 3 days this week I’m going to be exploring the topic of softness + slowness in short writings that are reflections upon my own process with it. The explorations this month are for paid subscribers only. It is 5$/month to enjoy all of the fruits of this labor and I am so deeply appreciative for the support! The financial backing helps me to continue putting out free writings, podcasts, social media posts, and make great projects. Thank you in advance and I hope you enjoy.

How To Stop Gaslighting Yourself + Slow The Fuck Down

Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity. John Muir The term ‘gaslighting’ became one of the top trending words of 2022 - and for good reason. Collectively for years we have been stepping into naming harms that have been done to us. However, the r…

On Knowing When You're Needed

I recently listened to a two hour long talk by author Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat Pray Love) that a friend of mine sent me. Elizabeth is a brilliant speaker, by the way - wonderful writer, but her themes in this talk were more than inspirational - they were life changing.

Everything is asking to be loved ~ full moon musing + discount code

Hi all. The following words are paraphrased from a webinar I attended earlier on in the summer entitled “Joy In The Time Of Apocalypse.” It was and incredible exploration of the multitudes that we are currently experiencing in our emotional and spiritual landscapes right now as we navigate our one wild and precious life simultaneously with climate chang…

Higher Self = Future Self

2011 Before tattoos, before serpentfire, before knowing what my 3rd decade felt like, before the biggest, most painful heartbreak and betrayal of my life, before my health crisis, before my autism diagnosis, before taking root, cocooning, nestling into my chosen family.

How To Keep Going

Marissa Strickland: From The Mud Despair, apathy, isolation, grief, hopelessness - none of this happens in love’s absence. Love is the still-water beneath the torrent, the churn, the whirlpool, the nauseating wave, the tsunami.

Navigating unprecedented times with health and sanity

Hi all, happy Sunday. A quick love note. There’s a big question going around right now which has to do with how we should navigate our lives + direct our attention, given the constant exposure we have to global events. Some are using guilt and shame to extend their message (policing how we post or don’t post, the things we say and don’t say publicly). O…

Hello Grief My Old Friend

Hello friends, It’s been a minute since I’ve been able to be present here. Late December required much attention in the form of my cat, Roshi, needing round the clock care and surgery (thank you endlessly to those who donated to the gofundme, it’s still available

So Long And Thanks For All The Fish

David A. Hardy Every few years I go into a special interest rabbit hole on the history of life on planet Earth, with fun branches of curiosities about the history of the entire universe, the future of our planet and our galaxy, does life exist on other planets…that kind of thing. You know, the small stuff.

So What Is A Spiritual Life, Exactly?

So What Is A Spiritual Life, Exactly?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been a rule-breaker. And I’ve never, ever been religious. I don’t care for people telling me who and what to believe in, what to abstain from, what not to conjure or think about, who is god and who is not, etc. I find the whole thing tedious, though of course I do understand its origins and why it has stuck around so vehemently: that drip, drip, drip of existential dread constantly threatening in the background, causing us anxiety, making us want to find concrete answers about life and death. Religion provides that to millions, if not billions, of people.

Healing Is Hard. So Don't Do It Every Day.

Image: @cryptid.energetics on Instagram I don’t actually feel like that meme suggests, I just thought it was funny. In fact, most days I wake up annoyed that I have to do more work to ‘kill’ or undo my bullshit conditioning. So this piece today will be just as much for me as it is for you, dear reader.

How To Feel Your Feelings

My friends, I don’t know if it has been the neurodivergence, I don’t know if it has been the trauma I’ve experienced throughout my life, or a wild combination of both - but I have really sucked at feeling my feelings. Like, really sucked. If you want to skip my storytelling and head straight to the ‘how to’ goods, feel free to scroll down. But you’ll prob…

How Do We Reclaim Our Awe?

Art: @davidshrigley on instagram I’ve been thinking lately about how we tell ourselves stories about our lives through the lens of our past. As adults, life can feel like a snowball gaining mass as it tumbles down a mountain: heavy, cumbersome, riddled with painful memories.
